What and who is 100 Speed?

100 Speed LLC was created to host automotive driving events and provide driver and car prep coaching and tuning.

100 Speed was founded by Lee Grimes who has over 30 year of activity in US club racing and over 20 years experience in organizing driving events including road rallies, charity karting events, autocrosses and lapping days. Lee has raced with and instructed for a number of sanctioning bodies and organizations over the last 20 years.

Lee has hosted lapping days at Putnam Park every year since 1994. He was the first private individual to rent Putnam Park and host a day of open track driving, even before the term “lapping day” existed. In fact, many of the people who host their own events at Putnam Park first were entrants in Lee’s early events.

Lee spent much of his childhood in racecar garages and racetrack paddocks observing, asking questions, handing tools and learning about cars and racing. He was a licensed SCCA race worker by the age of 12 and participated in several worker disciplines until he was able to race himself. Lee’s day job is overseeing automotive and motorsports products in North America for a major international suspension component company and he brings over 10 years of focused suspension development and tuning experience to 100 Speed customers.

Where did the name 100 Speed come from?

Spencer Grimes loves to play with cars, just like his dad Lee. When he was about three years old and just beginning to learn about numbers, one day Spencer was playing with some toy cars. He told his parents that one car was really fast and picked the biggest number he could think of. "This car is fast. It goes 100 speed", he said. That statement just seemed to stick around for awhile until Lee began formulating the idea of the company. "100 Speed" just seemed like a proper name for an organization dedicated to big kids playing with their fast toy cars.
